How Much Can You Really Make As a Lash Artist?

With the growth that the eyelash industry is currently seeing, the eyelash extension industry is poised to become a billion dollar industry. To be exact, the eyelash extension industry is supposed to reach more than $1.75 Billion USD by 2023. You might be sitting at home considering continuing your education with eyelash extension certification, wondering how you can make a chunk of that billion dollars as your income.

how much can a lash artist makes

Lash course pricing ranges from $1,000 to almost $2,000 which is obviously a big investment. You aren’t crazy if you want to be certain that you will make that money back and fast. It can feel scary to invest your disposable income into more training. Once you have obtained your cosmetology or esthetician license, training for eyelash extensions isn’t much time at all. Our new Bella Lash Academy sets up training so you can learn theory and eyelash techniques before you ever practice in class. At most, you are looking at a month long process. This may sound super appealing because of the short amount of time it takes to be certified, but don’t be fooled. Lashing is hard work and takes a lot of practice to become proficient.

There is no exact way to say how much each individual last artist makes. It all depends on the area you live in, how much you charge for a set or fill, and how much you want to work. If you are lashing 7 days a week for 12 hours a day, you will obviously be making more than someone who is only working two days a week for a few hours.

Using a simple formula to calculate how much you can make in a day can be helpful.

5 (1 Hour) Fills x $70 each = $350 per day
3 (2 Hour) Full Sets x $140 each = $420 per day

You would typically be making more off full sets. Full sets are when no extensions have been applied to natural lashes prior to the appointment. A fill service is when a client (typically one that got their full set from you) comes back in 2-3 weeks to have their lashes “filled” so they look like they just got a full set applied.
Based off your area and experience you can charge more for fills and full sets. Remember, lashing doesn’t have to be your only source of income if you don’t want it to be.

Because many states require lash artists to first be licensed estheticians or cosmetologists, you obviously have other talents and services you’ll want to offer clientele. Lash extensions make a great added service to your menu for any beauty based business.

With all that in mind, take all of this with a grain of salt. There are lash artists around the world who make above $100,000 a year. There are also lash artists who make much less. The best thing in our opinion about lash extensions is that you get to be in the driver’s seat of your career. Work as many or as little hours and days as you want. Being a lash artist is what you make it.
