Besides your natural lash cycle, (read more about that here) there are several reasons why you (or your clients) eyelashes could be falling out due to unnatural circumstances! We put together a list of 5 conditions as to why your eyelashes might be falling out quicker than they should.
- 1. Trichotillomania Tangle:
This is a condition that can begin at adolescence or even childhood. It is an impulse control disorder where the sufferer pulls out his or her own hair. They tend to pull from the scalp, eyelashes, and eyebrows. Some of these habits subside with age, but some continue this behavior through adulthood.
- 2. Thyroid Condition:
Whether your thyroid is over-active or under-active… it will make your hair brittle, thin, and dry- which causes it to fall out. If your thyroid is over-active… it can make it difficult to sleep, easy weight loss, and constant headaches. If it is under-active, it can cause dry skin, constipation, and weight gain. There is medication for thyroid problems that can be prescribed by a professional.
- 3. Alopecia Areata:
This is a disorder of the immune system that causes hair loss. The immune cells attack the hair follicles causing them to fall out. There is no cure to this, but it can be treated.
- 4. Blepharitis:
Eyelash Extension artists know about this wayyyyy too well. This is caused by an excessive growth of bacteria and blockage of the eyelid’s oil glands. This will cause the eyelids to be red, itchy, or swollen. This can be controlled through proper eyelid hygiene and AFTERCARE!
- 5. Allergy to eyelash extension adhesive
Many people have allergies to different ingredients in adhesives, two of which are latex and formaldehyde. We made sure to formulate our adhesives without either of these ingredients. Some people may experience a reaction, and if it’s bad enough, this can cause their natural eyelashes to fall out. A good remedy for this is to use our Silver Sensitive Adhesive!
